The Gifts of the Magi:A Guide for the New School Year

Many Latin cultures celebrate Three Kings Day this week. With this celebration, people commemorate when the Magi visited Jesus to honor and worship him. The Magi gave Jesus Gold, Incense, and Myrrh. These gifts served to praise and worship Jesus, providing us with a valuable lesson on how we can approach every aspect of our lives. I want to use them and their significance to the new journey of growth, learning, and service we are starting this new Semester.

  1. Gold symbolizes something precious and calls us to offer our best in all areas of life. As we enter this school year, let us strive for excellence in our studies, friendships, and character. When we commit to doing our best, we are honoring God. “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” Colossians 3:23

  1. Frankincense was used in worship, symbolizing the importance of prayer and adoration. Amid the hustle and bustle of school life, let us remember to prioritize our connection with God through prayer, worship, and reflection. We should make time to pray, reflect, and remain spiritually grounded. As it says in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, “Pray without ceasing.”

  1. Myrrh symbolizes sacrifice, preservation, and healing, reminding us that our journey extends beyond personal achievement and emphasizes serving others. Let us utilize our talents and gifts to bless others and make a difference in our Warrior family.

The Magi gave Jesus these gifts to honor and worship Him because they knew they were in front of the King of Kings. They were convinced that He was the Messiah everyone had been waiting for. We should emulate the Three Magi devotion by honoring Jesus every day. We must worship Him with the best we have. This new year, I invite you to surrender your life to Jesus and give Him your best gifts, be connected to Him in a daily relationship, and serve others by sharing God's love with them.
