Serving with Love: How Our Warriors Can Be a Light in Our School Community

“If you get, give. If you learn, teach.” This quote from Maya Angelou recalls the essence of having a grateful heart that serves. Service comes from our gratitude, and we, as Christians, have the best example of sacrificial love in Jesus Christ, a love we should all emulate and share with those around us. "Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his interests but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped but emptied himself by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."- Philippians 2:3–8. What a beautiful lesson Jesus gave us. He gave us a guide to follow. He showed us that we must humble ourselves, be obedient, and serve those around us.

As Warriors of Christ, we can make a positive impact in our school community. One of the most beautiful ways to achieve this is by reflecting Christ’s love through acts of service, kindness, and compassion. Jesus calls us to love one another just as He has loved us. Teach them how they can become beacons of light in our VPS Family. Below, we present you with meaningful ways your Warriors can be a light to those around them in their school community.

  1. Reach out to students who may feel isolated or left out. A kind word or simply sitting with someone at lunch can make a huge difference. Jesus showed compassion to the outcasts, and we can follow His example by being friends with those needing connection.

  2. Offer your help to classmates who may be struggling with schoolwork. Share your knowledge and be patient and encouraging. By supporting others academically, you’re showing the love of Christ through service and kindness.

  3. Get involved in school or church community service projects, such as food drives, charity events, or volunteering at local shelters. Serving others is a powerful way to reflect Christ’s love and make a difference in the lives of those around you.

  4. Take the time to listen to your peers with understanding and without judgment. Showing empathy and truly listening to someone’s struggles can be a simple but profound way to reflect Christ’s compassion.

  5. Offer kind words of encouragement to classmates who feel down or overwhelmed. Let them know you believe in them, just as Christ believes in us. A few words of kindness can provide the strength someone needs to keep going.

  6. Offer your time and talents to help organize or assist with school events, from assemblies to fundraisers. Being a willing helper reflects Christ’s servant heart and strengthens the sense of community within the school.

  7. Show appreciation for the teachers, counselors, and school staff who work hard to support you and your classmates. A simple thank-you note or words of encouragement can go a long way in making them feel valued.

  8. Make it a habit to be kind in everyday interactions, whether helping to carry someone’s books, holding the door open, or simply offering a smile. Small acts of kindness reflect the love of Christ in big ways.

  9. Regularly pray for your school, teachers, classmates, and school leaders. Pray for wisdom, unity, and God’s guidance for the school community. Let your prayers be a reflection of your heart for those around you.

  10. Be sensitive to the emotional or mental struggles of your peers. If someone is going through a tough time, whether personal or academic, offer a listening ear or words of encouragement. Sometimes, just knowing that someone cares can make all the difference. Reflecting Christ’s love means reaching out to others in their time of need, and offering emotional and spiritual support.

“Let all that you do be done in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:14.) When we share Christ’s love through service, kindness, and compassion, we create a positive and supportive school environment where everyone can thrive.
