Over the years, excessive consumerism has clouded the true meaning of Christmas. For many, the season has become a time to shop endlessly, anticipate gifts, or escape daily struggles with a vacation. Sadly, for others, Christmas brings pain, synonymous with loneliness, sadness, or even despair. While gifts, holidays, and festive meals can be good and enjoyable, is that really what Christmas is about? Unfortunately, we often trivialize this sacred celebration with parties and presents, forgetting to pause and reflect on what we are truly celebrating. Have you ever stopped to ask yourself what Christmas means to you?
Christmas became profoundly meaningful when I surrendered my life to God. No, Jesus was not born on December 25, but this date was chosen to remember His miraculous birth, a moment that changed the course of history. Instead of debating actual dates or trivial details, shouldn’t we focus on the incredible gift Jesus gave us, the gift of salvation? He redeemed us, offering eternal life through a sacrifice we could never deserve.
We often diminish the depth of His love, taking His sacrifice for granted. But if you think about it, would you be willing to give everything, even your life, for the person you love most? He gave everything for us, even when we were unworthy. John 3:16 captures this beautifully: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Whenever you question what real love looks like, look to Jesus. His life and sacrifice are the ultimate examples of unconditional love.
Sadly, we devote so little time to remembering His legacy. Christmas often becomes just another fleeting moment spent on meaningless distractions. But this is the time to pause, thank Him, worship Him, and glorify Him with all our hearts. Thanks to Jesus, we have salvation and eternal life. Through His sacrifice, we are forgiven, called redeemed, beloved children of God, and heirs of His glory.
So, let us focus on the miracle of eternal life. Celebrate His birth, yes, but also celebrate His triumph over death. That victory is the reason we have hope. Worship Him with all your might. Adore Him with unwavering faith and obedience. I encourage you to reflect on Jesus, the depth of His love, the magnitude of His sacrifice, and the eternal hope He brings. Celebrate the true meaning of this season and make the new year the most meaningful year of your life. May God bless you abundantly as you embrace the joy and wonder of His gift.
