FINDING PEACE AMID TRIALS

Writer's picture: Sylvia RiveraSylvia Rivera

A powerful quote from John Mroz says: Peace is not the absence of chaos or conflict, but rather finding yourself amid that chaos and remaining calm in your heart. We all seek peace, especially in the hecticness and viraginous world. This quote may seem challenging to understand because we mistakenly think peace is only a result of not having any problems or trials. Most people believe everything in their lives must be perfect to receive peace, but this is far from the truth. We can find peace amid the trial, and we can find peace amid our problems; the key is in trusting God. Are you trusting God amid your circumstances?

"You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You." - Isaiah 26:3. This verse perfectly explains that you can experience peace if you trust in God. God is willing to give you a peace that surpasses all understanding, but you must trust His will. The perfect peace manifests when we start trusting God. It is a vote of confidence amid the trial, trusting God no matter our circumstances. Instead of focusing on our problems, we should trust God and acknowledge He is with us every step of the way. What else can we do to find peace?

1.   Prayer and Meditation: Communicate with God, seeking His guidance and peace in times of hardship. Meditate on Scripture to find comfort and strength in God’s promises. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6-7.

2.   Trust in God’s Sovereignty: Acknowledge that God is in control and surrender your worries and anxieties to Him, trusting His plan for your life. We know that all things work for good for those who love God,*who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28.

3.   Seek Support in the Christian Community: Surround yourself with fellow believers who can provide spiritual encouragement, prayer support, and practical assistance during trials. “ Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2.

4.   Reflect on God’s Faithfulness: Recall instances from your life where God has shown His faithfulness and delivered you from challenges. Reflecting on His past provisions can strengthen your faith for current trials.

5.   Practice Gratitude: Cultivate a spirit of thankfulness by focusing on blessings amidst difficulties. Gratitude shifts your perspective from what you lack to what God has already provided. Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.

6.   Study and Apply Scripture: Delve into the Bible for wisdom and guidance on handling trials. Apply biblical teachings to your life, allowing God’s Word to shape your thoughts and actions.

7.   Serve Others: Use your experiences and God’s comfort to minister to others facing similar challenges. Serving others can bring purpose and perspective to your struggles. 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.

Incorporate these practices into your life and discover peace amidst trials. We can find peace if we depend on God's strength and promises to sustain us through hardships, sickness, heartbreak, and uncertainty. We can find peace amid chaos or conflict if we have faith and trust God. But please, be aware that faith is not about saying you are ok when you are at your worst. Faith is not about denying what you are experiencing. It is not about telling everybody you are good when inside you feel empty. Faith is not ignoring your weaknesses. Faith is about dealing with the core of the problem; it is about dealing with reality and having the courage to see beyond it. Faith is an unwavering trust in God.

God always knows what is best for you, and He will always do more than you expect or could ever imagine. When you have done everything in your hands, and nothing seems to work, it is time to let go of your control and give Him the wheel of your life. It is time to accept God's will and keep walking with the reassurance and confidence that when He is in control, even in defeat, you will find blessings. It is liberating to be aware that even in failure, even when what you see is contrary to what you want, if you are walking with God, you will find peace. God is ready to give you the peace you are looking for, you just have to seek Him and trust Him.
